It has the ancient symbol of the looped square or Saint John’s Arms (hannunvaakuna / käpälikkö in Finnish), and an anchor in the middle. The looped square is an ancient symbol that was used especially in Northern Europe. It was often painted on house walls and carved on items, to bring good luck and protection from evil spirits.
