Sea Monster pendant Confusarius Maris Baltici

According to legend, the Confusarius Maris Baltici was (and is…?) a mysterious sea monster in Finland's Merenkurkku and Raippaluoto area in Vaasa, seen multiple times in the 1800s. It was described as a big, 20 meter long snake-like creature. The inspiration behind this piece came from our own experience.

While sailing in Vaasa waters, near the Raippaluoto bridge, we experienced something unusual. Suddenly the water started to churn, and the boat did a 180 degree spin despite good wind. It was very strange; a whale or a submarine came to mind. Much later we were astonished when we stumbled upon an article about the Raippaluoto sea monster - an obvious explanation, right? So here is an artist’s view of the Merenkurkku mystery.
